About the Chiang Mai University Language Institute
In recognition of the emergence of a unified global consciousness,
On August 23, 2003, the Chiang Mai University Council, as part of the proceedings of its sixth meeting, decided to establish the Language Institute as an autonomous organization under supervision of the university. It was decided that the main role of the Language Institute, CMU would be the development of foreign languages, learning potentials, and the overall communicative skills of its students and staff and the wider community.
This role includes:
On September 3, 2004, Chiang Mai University initiated the regulations pertaining to the operation and objectives of the Language Institute, CMU.
Our Objectives
- To assist and develop the learning potentials and communicative skills required in the academic and general use of foreign languages for Chiang Mai University’s students and staff and the wider community.
- To enhance knowledge and understanding of a variety of foreign cultures.
- To produce high quality and up-to-date foreign language textbooks and learning media.
- To provide the testing of foreign language knowledge and communicative skills.
- To establish a network of collaboration amongst language institutions throughout the Kingdom of Thailand and abroad to promote the exchange of ideas, language, and culture
Our Policy
It is the policy of the Language Institute, CMU that by offering the highest quality teaching to its students and staff and the wider community in developing their foreign language fluency, learning abilities,and overall communicative skills, that they may further their studies, careers,and enhance themselves culturally, for the betterment of the Kingdom of Thailand and the global community.
Our Vision
It is the vision of the Language Institute, CMU to develop foreign language, learning potentials, and the overall communicative skills of its students and staff and the wider community. This includes those from the government and private sectors, as well as the general public throughout the north of Thailand.
LICMU Mission
- To develop Chiang Mai University students to be able to communicate with the foreigners so as to effectively further their studies and careers.
- To develop the foreign language fluency of Chiang Mai University staff, and the general public throughout Chiang Mai
and adjoining provinces, so as to benefit and enhance their services, business dealings with other countries, education, and culture exchanges.
- To respond to the need for foreign language services from individuals and organizations alike and to provide them with the various foreign language services necessary to both the government and private sectors.
